Local Lifestyle

The Animas Valley is a beautiful area located along the Animas River, with rugged mountains and thousands of acres of wilderness. Residents here have easy access to one-of-a-kind hiking, skiing, and fishing in the same spot where blockbuster movies were filmed.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

Throughout the Valley, you'll find many shopping destinations and restaurants tucked away in the mountains. Animas Brewing Company is a local brewery that offers housemade beer, Colorado wine, and other cocktails in a rustic space. The brewery also serves American cuisine, including burgers, appetizers, and desserts for the whole family to enjoy. The brewery's taproom is the perfect place to meet friends for drinks after a long day of work.

Another Animas Valley gem is the Highway 3 Roadhouse & Oyster Bar. This hard-to-find spot is a local favorite that serves cajun and creole food with a southern flare. Since it's only open three days a week, locals look forward to Wednesdays, when they meet their friends at the Roadhouse for specials like fresh oysters and bread pudding with whiskey sauce.

Locally owned and operated, Nayarit Restaurant North serves authentic and traditional Mexican cuisine paired with delicious cocktails. Customers can sip margaritas in their festive indoor dining space or on the patio while enjoying complimentary mountain views.

Things to Do

Living in the Animas Valley means you have endless outdoor adventures at your fingertips year-round. From world-class skiing to water excursions and hiking trails, you'll never run out of places to explore in southwest Colorado.

Animas City Mountain provides a challenging six-mile loop trail no matter which direction you hike. Plan on walking about two-and-a-half miles uphill toward the peak. Experienced hikers promise the view is worth the effort, as it provides panoramic views of Durango and the Animas Valley.

The Animas Overlook Trail is just a short drive down Junction Creek Road, where you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Animas Valley. Here you will find picnic tables to enjoy a picnic or relax at, and the trail connects to several other popular trails in the area, including the iconic Colorado Trail.

Other natural must-see destinations include Pinkerton Hot Springs and Bakers Bridge, where visitors can enjoy magnificent views of the Animas River below.

Avid anglers can take their boats out at the Animas River Boat Access. You’ll find an enormous playground, walking trails, picnic spots, and river access at this spot. It's also a great place to jump in and spend a warm, sunny afternoon floating down the Animas River.
