Four Leaves Winery is located in Durango, and visitors are encouraged to taste wine from custom batches made on-site. Fox Fire Farms is a family-owned winery in Ute that's been in operation for over 100 years, spanning five generations. You’ll find wine tasting, live music, and a charming gift shop.

In La Plata County, small and large towns alike host various festivals throughout the year. Durango hosts Snowdown, arguably the county’s largest and most popular event each winter. Attendees come from miles around to participate in events that lift their spirits.
Each spring, you'll find events like the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, Durango Fiesta Days, and the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally. In the fall, locals never miss the Cowboys Poetry Gathering.

The best part about living in La Plata County is its vast wilderness and wide open spaces. The San Juan National Forest is a magnificent place to hike, camp, and explore; there’s nowhere like it in the rest of the country. Additionally, the Weminuche Wilderness boasts nearly 500,000 acres of mountains that beckon you to hike, camp, and fish year-round.

The Colorado Trail spans 485 miles across the county, offering scenic hiking trails that take you across bubbling streams and scenic valleys.
